Lofrans’ proudly announces its support of Seafighter Rib at “Ribbing for Arctic” expedition, an attempt to navigate the North Atlantic Ocean.
This great journey will take place within the Arctic Circle, in the summer of 2021 and the “Original Windlass” Manufacturer has the honor to gift the Lofrans’ X1 - Vertical Windlass and other accessories to the Seafighter Rib.
Our valuable partner, Alex Marine informed us of this initiative and we immediately responded positively, as Lofrans’ is dedicated to designing and manufacturing windlasses and anchor management solutions, that combine top performance, durability and reliability.
More specifically, in the “Ribbing for Arctic” expedition, the participants will attempt to navigate the North Atlantic Ocean in order to reach the west coast of Greenland and afterwards try to cross the legendary North West Passage, north of Canada, crossing the Bering strait that separates the coast of the American continent (Alaska) from the coast of Asia, covering a total of more than 7000 nautical miles.
The success of the “Ribbing for Arctic” expedition will make the participants the first team in history that has made this feat with an inflatable boat, which will have managed to cross both the Atlantic Ocean and the Northwest Passage, reaching the Pacific Ocean.
In addition, “Ribbing for Arctic” mission is to raise people’s awareness about climate change that every passing day, becomes even more intense.
With the message “Save the Arctic”, they will transport scientific material to the bases of the research teams of Iceland, Greenland and Canada, and will highlight the very serious work of a global scientific group active in the study of the environmental and anthropogenic impact on cetaceans.
Both Lofrans’ and Alex Marine are more than happy for this sponsorship, as we aim to support such interesting sea-related actions.
Do not forget that being one of the most weather-beaten and mechanically challenged equipment on the deck, a windlass could not stand anything else than premium materials.
At Lofrans’, we utilize only specific marine materials, able to withstand marine corrosion and treated in such way so as to increase their mechanical strength.
*Kindly note that the expedition “RIBBING FOR ARCTIC” has been postponed to 2021 due to Covid-19 pandemic
